Step of Faith
August 15, 2008Leaping or Falling?
A lot of people I know seem to be in a place of transition. They are earnestly seeking God's will for their lives and have stepped out in faith toward something new. But it seems like after they've taken a step (and often a major one), they haven't seen the results they were expecting or hoping for. In fact, it feels like they've stepped off a cliff instead and are falling from safety.
I believe a lot of these experiences, and yes, I'm in a transition place too, have to do with God's timing and tests of faith on that timing. The Bible tells us God's timing is not our timing. But we can trust His leading.
God reminded me of a scene in Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade. Those of you who've seen it will remember the scene where Indiana has to step off the cliff in faith. He musters all his courage and sticks his foot out. As he begins to fall (seemingly to his demise), his foot hits the path that was not visible from his viewpoint above. Once he took the step, he could then see the path and ultimately the destination he wanted to reach.
So if you've earnestly been seeking God's will for your life and have taken a step of faith toward His purposes and feel like you're falling instead, realize your foot just hasn't hit the path yet, but it will. Rest in the fact that God is still in control and trust His timing. He's never late.
